Rainbow Lattice SUNSTONE Crystal Cabochon - Gemstones Approximate Size: 13.6 x 8.8 mm Approximate Weight: 2.21 carats Location: Harts Range, Australia This. Rainbow lattice sunstone is found in Australia’s Northern Territory. Scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) analysis of the magnetite showed that it is composed of very thin plates containing only Fe and O, without any Ti. ![]() The inclusions causing the aventurescence were identified as hematite, while lattice patterns were found to consist of orangey brown platelets of hematite and black platelets of magnetite (rather than ilmenite, as previously reported). Yet it is a Moonstone that also has Sunstone inclusions. Electron microprobe and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, combined with laser Raman spectroscopy, indicate the host mineral is orthoclase (Or96Ab4), as previously reported in the literature. For starters, the host mineral is nearly pure Orthoclase, chemically far removed from ‘normal’ Moonstone or Sunstone. ![]() Abstract: Rainbow lattice sunstone from the Harts Range, Northern Territory, Australia, shows a rare combination of phenomena including aventurescence, adularescence and a distinctive lattice pattern caused by oriented inclusions. Much of the physics of the Player Series Acoustasonic Telecaster are just that, finding the happy medium between electric and acoustic design. ![]()
